The Mexican collective Tercerunquinto begins its period of residence with the opening of solo show in Artista X Artista's space, on Friday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. The exhibition can be visited after the opening by appointment.
The stay in Havana of this two artists: Gabriel Cazares (1978) and Rolando Flores (1975), will take place between March 11 and April 13, 2017. During the residence, the artists will perform different public activities, including a workshop with art students and a talk to present their work on Friday, April 7 at 18:30 h.
The concept of the exhibition consists of proposing two different - even contradictory - ideas on the uses of public space in Mexico. On the one hand, Restoration of a mural painting (2010), which consisted in carrying out the restoration of a painting of the political campaign of the year 2000, in collaboration with a group of art restorers, who applied the same technical rigor with which they work to make the rescue of patrimonial and artistic assets. On the other hand, Cloths (2017) and Grammar of sadness (2017) in which they worked with different street political paintings, of those known as graffiti, which, either for their grammatical or semantic construction, express some form of protest against a political, economic, cultural, social or religious authority, etc... The anonymous, clandestine and ephemeral natures of these texts keep them in conditions of a certain marginality that place them in opposition to the previous paintings, although both can coexist in the same public spaces.
This residence is supported by SAPS La Tallera (Mexico), where the Cuban artist Humberto Díaz (Santa Clara, Cuba, 1975) will be a resident, in exchange quality.
