Artista X Artista announces the next two artists in residence that will be in Havana between May 5 and June 17: Sara Munguía (Santander, 1989) and Miriam Isasi (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1981).
Sara Munguía (Santander, 1989) was unanimously selected by a jury composed of artists Lázaro Saavedra (CU), José A. Toirac (CU), Amir Fattal (IR-DE), and Farah Gómez (CU) and Lillebit Fadraga by Artista X Artista, who met last March 2 in Havana.
Sara’s work was selected from five candidates of very high level, for the richness of means with which tackles issues that are burning to contemporary society as (in)communication, the effects of living immersed in a constant translation, the pertinence of techniques come to less and the possibility of reinventing them, as well as the capacity to readapt science and technology to daily life. The jury insisted on the importance of selecting an artist who, like Sara Munguía, might be able to grasp the Cuban local context and reinterpret its multiple codes in function of her future work.
This is a project in collaboration with Orbital Residency, which has the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Cantabria, where already was, as an exchange, the Cuban artist residing in Holland Loidys Carnero (La Habana, 1982).
