Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara (Havana, 1987) is a member of the Cuban Association of Artisans and Artists (ACAA) and is currently studying a degree in Physical Culture. Previously, he was awarded the Residencia Incubador (January-June 2015), La Primavera del amor, a platform for artistic development and intercultural production. Curated by Catherine Sicot and organized by Elegoa Cultural Produtions, LASA, with the support of the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives. Among his recent exhibitions are: Materialization of the dreamed object III, Mall Excelsior, I Bienal de Asunción (Paraguay, 2015); Between, Inside, Outside / Between, Inside, Outside, Cuba Pavilion, XII Biennial of Havana (2015).
For the use of performance as a strategy of artistic and political subversion; and by the skillful appropriation of languages from popular culture and religious traditions and practices of African origin, which are readjusted to carry out an incisive analysis of the shortcomings and concerns of current Cuban society, the evaluation committee, meeting in La Havana on November 27, 2015, composed by Pascale Martine Tayou (artist, Cameroon-Belgium), Eugenio Viola (curator MADRE Museum, Naples) and Carlos Garaicoa (artist and founder of Artista X Artista, Havana-Madrid), has decided , unanimously, among the nominations presented in the first phase of the candidacy process - in charge of this edition of three professionals in the contemporary Cuban art field: the artists René Francisco Rodríguez and Lázaro Saavedra, and the curator Sachie Hernández-, choose as beneficiary of the residence in El Ranchito.
